Both Identro and Turb, may i reccomend you guys to ask for Simple his help.
Simple is a hardware freak and hes definately the man you want when it comes to hardware advice. ![]() @ Identro : You can use that, but i'd check out the Intel i5 or i7 line. May be a bit more pricey then the AMD's.. but its definately the line to follow for gaming. And im confident that 4gb or Ram will give you a pleasent experience for the next few years, you can always upgrade to more if needed.

The way Intell CPU accesses memory is old and kinda sucks, hence the big cache they always have on thier CPU's. AMD CPU's are accessing memory on a total diff way. It is the next best thing so to say, you dont see AMD CPU's with bigass cache memory on them. This way you get way faster performance (specially with gaming). If you want to go deep in to this call Rob Buiskol from HP :)

read up Bloomfield technology....
Like i said, your info was correct, 2 years ago. Its slightly outdated now ![]() Currently Intel is using the Bloomfield Nahelem architecture, where before they used Conroe (iirc). Bloomfield Nahelem is using triple channel memory in contrary to the previous cores, who used dualchannel, which brings them on equal terms of accessing memory with AMD (nearly 37Gb/s) , now when thats up par... wouldnt make the bigger ammounts of L1/L2/L3 Cache an advantadge in this case, instead of saying 'more cache is only used to compensate their lack of memory access' ? Theres been alot more architectual improvements on the Bloomfield Nahelem core that put AMD in the dust on even more area's then just gaming, go do some extensive reasearch on it. Even with the direct access memory technology (37GB/s) of AMD compared to the Hyperthread FSB of INTEL (32GB/s) being slightly faster, the Intel's Core architecture is so much more advanced that it leaves AMD in the dark on any front. Id like to take your arguments in consideration, but give me some numbers, benchmarks, written opinions, user experiences.. as everything i learned from CPU's the last year from tons of reviews, benchmarks and user experiences just prove me the opposite of what this 1 HP man is telling you. ![]() And no offense ofcourse.. but hes from HP.. thats not in anyway an AMD or Intel, their expertise is very different.. im not sure how a HP man in a Bussiness environment could convince me how an AMD CPU would be better for gaming ? ![]() (HP has no market in the gaming industry at all, or its so few that it can be simply neglected)

For future upgrade's the Socket 1366 might suck. Especially if you dont have much cash on you. Because that socket will be for the high end expensive market. The fact that they released a VERY low priced cpu for that socket is a weird choice by Intel. But you have to look in the future as well. Unless you want to do 7 years with a CPU and then upgrade your motherboard and cpu together again.
